KISS Rebreather Dive Weekend at Ocean Treasure

Date: Friday, February 28, 2020

KISS Rebreather Dive Weekend at Ocean Treasure - Fri through Sun, Feb 28th to March 1st (with optional 3rd night available):

We have put together what we think would be a remarkable KISS Rebreather weekend at Ocean Treasure (my new 11 suite beachside hotel in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea designed for divers). The prices per person for KISS divers range from $400 to $600 per person (depending on the room selection and how many people share your room). We will send you by separate email with the room selection information with pricing.

Please let us know if you also are bringing a non diver as their price is less.

Also on Saturday from approximately 2 pm until 6 pm (ish) Mike will be conducting a mini technician service clinic. This would be an extra $100 per person (that would be booked directly through KISS but let us know if interested and we will inform the KISS team).

The overall pricing includes:

2-Night Stay at Ocean Treasure (Fri-Sun)
optional third night stay available, inquire if interested (if needed due to 24 hour no fly after dive)

Cookout on Friday night at Ocean Treasure for all guests (chicken, burgers, sides, etc.)

Shore diving - we would supply each guest with one air fill for their dil and one o2 fill. We would need to know if people will need us to get them tanks and sizes, and that would be priced separately with Pompano Dive Center. We will also have plenty of sorb on site. We were thinking the guests could arrive around 11AM on Friday and enjoy some nice shore diving where I can show you guys our gorgeous reefs right off the property.

Technical boat dive on Saturday - wreck dive or reef drift dive via Pompano Dive Center. We will have our tanks filled with the appropriate mix at the dive center. The only thing we will have to individually coordinate and pay for separately is our own specific fill needs with PDC for these two boat dives. Transportation to and from PDC is included in the package.

Technical boat dive on Sunday - wreck dive or reef drift dive via Pompano Dive Center. Again, guests would have their tanks filled at the dive center with their appropriate mix and fills. While the boat dive is included in the price, they will need to coordinate fills with PDC independently. Transportation is included.

The dive center has plenty of awesome tech dives, so we will coordinate with them and pick two that meets our KISS overall divers profile once we have everyone’s cert rating (to determine depth limits and such). We may even be able to arrange for a shallow boat (130 foot and above dive) and a deep boat (130 to 200 range).

This would be incredibly fun. Our hotel is a 3 minute walk from so many bars and restaurants and the area is really great. All of our beachside rooms are first class in every way.

I believe this will sell out quickly. To book simply email Info@OceanTreasureLBTS.com with how many divers/non-divers you have and how many rooms you need. You can also call Dylan Tannenbaum (GM) at (954)790-1588 to book.

Copycat Rebreather Parts

Date: Monday, November 25, 2019

I hate to be a party-pooper, but...

As in any business, there is risk of other individuals who decide to start making and selling copycat parts.  In the event that this happens in the rebreather industry, there is more at stake then the usual issues of someone copying another business's design.  A rebreather is made up of "key components" that ensure the device is safe to use, and properly tested.

KISS Rebreather LLC has recently discovered that some plastic components are being copied, likely 3-D printed, by an unauthorized individual.  While these parts may seem basic, they provide a key function in ensuring the KISS diving system is safe to use.  The quality/type of the materials used, and the shape were determined by testing the product fully.  The circ clips are key parts that are used on both the mouthpiece and the counterlung/scrubber canister.  KISS approved circ clips are only in BLACK, and can be ordered from authorized KISS dealers only, or directly from KISS Rebreather LLC.  In the event of failure, serious consequences could arise.  Due to the importance of this particular part, KISS Rebreather LLC is required to provide a warning about the use of unauthorized parts and components in the KISS diving systems. Please be aware that unapproved modifications are not recommended, and can cause serious injury or death.

2017 Roppel Cave Expedition

Date: Saturday, December 2, 2017

Photography by Jon Lillestolen

On December 2nd, 2017 Roppel Cave got even longer. Extending the world’s longest by an additional 1,304 feet underwater and 376 feet dry cave.

This would not have been made possible without the tireless efforts of back up divers Brian Williams and Joshua Shouse as well as an all-star support team comprised of Mark Wenner, Stephanie Petri, Brian and Tiffany Buchanan, Kyle Moschell, Charles Walker, Britt Hardwick, Bill Walker, Ryan Olson, Joe Heinrich, Jay and Erin Young & Pat Kambesis.

After an initial day of logistics planning, gear hauling (18 bags + 80lbs lead) and set up. The dive team entered Sump 1 in intervals beginning with Jon Lilliestolen at 11:30 pm. Mike Young then entered on his cave adapted KISS Orca Spirit at 12:00 with Matt Vinzant entering on his KISS Orca Spirit (with custom cover) at 12:30 pm. While Sump 1 had already been explored during the team’s 2016 expedition – most of the focus was targeted upstream on pushing Sump 2.

Dive team member and photographer Jon Lillestolen set up a radio location beacon on Swicegood Avenue between Sump 1 and 2. This enabled the surface crew to successfully locate the beacon and verify the data provided.

The dive team was faced with low visibility as water conditions did not improve in Sump 2, maintaining a consistent 5 to 7 feet of visibility as seen above. “Mike Young was lead exploration diver adding 1300’ of new line in Sump 2 beginning with station S24 and broke into dry passage after 1300 ft. Matt followed and began the new survey at S25 (the last station from the 2015 dive). The new survey began with SS1 and continued with that naming convention. The team surfaced in one large air bell at SS8, just 379’ past the old end of line.  This was a 20’ tall dome but no way to exit the water. Matt continued the survey and the team emerged in large dry passage.  The passage continued underwater for a total of 1304’ in 32 stations from the 2015 EOL.” (Excerpt from Mark Wenner’s detailed trip report)

Many members of this team have been working on this project for over 10 years. Hard work and determination has certainly paid off for these explorers! Thank everyone who contributed to make this year's expedition such a great success. Special thanks to property owner Dave Weller for support and permission to work on this amazing site.
